5. Philip Rechten, Jersey City 1892 Directory entry. Ancestry.com. Jersey City, New Jersey Directories, 1891-93 [database online]. Provo, Utah: MyFamily.com, Inc., 2000. Original data: Jersey City Directory, 1892. Jersey City, NJ: W. Andrew Boyd, 1892.

Philip Rechten continues to work as a casemaker in this directory while residing at 297 Central Avenue.

6. Philipp Rechten household, 1900 U.S.census, Hudson County, New Jersey, population schedule, Hoboken, enumeration district [ED]49, supervisor's district [SD] 164, sheet 11B, dwelling 52, family 235.

In 1900, The Rechten family lived in an apartment house at 205 Adams Street in Hoboken, New Jersey. Philip was working as a case maker and supporting his wife, Caroline; and children: William, 18; August, 9; and Adelia, 6. This was their complete family at this time and even though there is a nine-year span between William and August, the census indicates that there were no deaths of any other children. Philipp and Caroline were both German immigrants; Philipp entering the country in 1869, and Caroline in 1872. They had been married 19 years by this time.

7. Philipp Rechten househould, 1910 U.S. census, Hudson County, New Jersey, population schedule, Hoboken city, enumeration district [ED] 77, supervisor's district [SD] 8, sheet 17B, dwelling 180, family 368.

By 1910, Philipp and his wife "Leana," as Caroline was sometimes called, lived on Willow Street in Hoboken. Between 1900 and 1910, Leana had birthed a fourth child, but it is supposed that the child died as the census lists only 3 out of the 4 children living. Oddly enough, Adelia is not listed with the family and would only have been 16 years old at this time. Leana was working as a nurse on her own, while Philipp continued to make cases for a jewelry house.

8. Philipp Rechten household, 1920 U.S. census, Hudson County, New Jersey, population schedule, Hoboken city, enumeration district [ED]103, supervisor's district [SD] 9, sheet 11A, dwelling 114, family 260.

In 1920, Philipp, being widowed, was living with his daughter, Adel/Adelia; son-in-law, James; and grand-daughter, Adel. At 64 he was still working as a casemaker. This census shows that he was naturalized in 1876 which confirms the posted naturalization papers as his own and not that of his father. The family was living at 1113 Willow Avenue in Hoboken, New Jersey.

9. Philip Rechten death certificate no. 134, (1924)Hoboken, Hudson County, New Jersey. State of New Jersey, Trenton.
