Notes:

Cipriano left NYC sometime in late 1839, or 1840, and died in 1848. In Corsica he was a sailor, his son Peter wrote that his father was known as a Privateersman for the French Navy. The story is that he sailed here on his own ship and took up residence in lower Manhattan, he is first listed in the 1821 Longworth's directory as a Fruiter at 125 Fly Market, he then had a confectionary store at 456 Broadway from 1823-1829 in 1830 he moved to 321 Broadway and he opened a second store at 42 Bowery. From 1831 to about 1840 he had a store at 220 or 222 Broadway (which was the building that later became the PT Barnum Museum) as well as having a store at 321 Broadway. His home address was first at 214 Fulton Street and then from 1833 to about 1842, 65 Duane Street. During this whole time he was buying land in Woodbridge and building a home there. He also became a citizen of the USA on April 14th 1829 in the Marine Court of the City of New York. {Information contributed by John Caraccioli, New York, NY.}
