The 1900 U.S. Census for Arthur and Anna May shows them living at 14 Roberts Avenue in Glens Falls Village, New York. Arthur is 27 years old working as a brick moulder; Anna is 26 years old at home caring for their first two children, Wilber 3 years old, and Victor 1 year old.
2. Arthur Parsons household, U.S. 1910 census, Richmond County, Westfield Township, Tottenville Richmond Borough, New York, enumeration district [ED] 133a, supervisor's district [SD] --, sheet --, dwelling 403, family 407.
By 1910, Arthur and Anna had moved to Central Avenue in Tottenville, Staten Island, New York. Arthur was now a presser for terra cotta. His place of birth states "on the water." They had seen difficult times between 1900 and 1910. Their young baby daughter, Vivian, born 1901 had died the same year that Wilber had in 1903 during the short time that they lived in Rocky Hill, New Jersey.
3. Arthur Parsons household, U.S. 1920 census, Richmond, Westfield County, New York, enumeration district [ED] --, supervisor's district [SD] --, sheet --, dwelling 110, family 118.
In 1920 the family was renting a home at 399 Elliot Avenue in Tottenville, New York. Arthur was continuing in his work at terra cotta and Anna's responsibilities remained with her growing family. In addition to Mildred and Victor, Ethelyn had been born in New Jersey; Theodore, 10 years old; and Ralph, 8 years old. This is the first document that states Arthur's birthplace as New York.
4. Arthur Parsons household, U.S. 1930 census, Richmond County, Tottenville, Staten Island, New York, enumeration district [ED] 43-288, supervisor's district [SD] 27, sheet 14A, dwelling 185, family 216.
The Parsons' family now owned their own home, worth $5,000, at 130 Butler Avenue in Tottenville, New York. Their daughter, Mildred, now 29 and Ralph, 18 years old, were the only children remaining at home. This is the second document that shows Arthur's birthplace as New York. Arthur's brother, Harry, and his wife, Emma, owned their own home too right next door to Arthur and Anna.
